Dale Mateo was born on Friday the 13th. Dale teases that this ominous day has cast him into a life of partial darkness. As a teenager, Dale was fascinated with ghost stories, horror movies, and questions surrounding religion. Unbeknownst to those closest to him, Dale has always been fond of the occult. Dale first became involved in photography in 2002. For many years he only experimented with capturing life’s merry moments. Eventually the perplexities of life challenged him to focus his lens into the shadows. Dale wanted to use the camera to articulate the arcane emotions he had been suppressing. Dale went on to further develop his style while studying Fine Art Photography at the Academy of Art in San Francisco. Dale currently works with both digital and analog photography processes along with mixed media techniques that include drawing, painting, and collage.
